JCPFFA
Thermal Imaging Camera Fund Raiser |
![]() |
The Johnson City Professional Fire Fighters Association, in
cooperation with the citizens, businesses and local
government of Johnson City is conducting a fund raiser in
order to purchase thermal imaging cameras. This camera will
allow fire fighters to "see" in a smoke filled environment
where otherwise they would be totally blind. When searching
for victims fire fighters must crawl and search an area by
using their sense of feel to guide them. This is very dangerous
for fire fighters and the victims they are attempting to assist.
The thermal imaging camera increases fire fighter safety by
helping keep the fire fighter from becoming disoriented, lost
or even trapped, thus greatly decreasing the amount of time
spent reaching a victim.
For more information visit the Cairns web site.
The cameras retail for $16,500 each. The JCPFFA ideally
would like to purchase a camera for each fire engine (8). The
amount of funds raised will be the true determining factor of
how many cameras will be purchased. Donations can be sent
to the Thermal Imaging Camera Fund c/o Johnson City
Professional Fire Fighters Association, P.O. Box 4540 CRS,
Johnson City, TN 37602-4540. Make checks payable to
"JCPFFA Thermal Imaging Camera Fund". Donations will
not be solicited by phone or door-to-door.
